The exhibition Body Symphonies was held in Le Marais from May 30 to June 9, 2024. Conceived by Marion Guggenheim and Nicolas Dewavrin, it brought together the works of 11 artists: George Rouy, Alex Foxton, Jamiu Agboke, Leo Orta, Claire Fahys, Malù Dalla Piccola, John Fou, Shuo Hao, Ricardo Fumanal, Giovanni Bassan and Bianca Argimón. Through a sensitive and daring artistic exploration, the exhibition proposed to redefine the spaces bodies inhabit.
Like a symphonic dialogue, the works on display questioned how the body detaches from the weight of everyday life to enter a nocturnal space where it can resonate freely with its impulses. This immersive narrative explored the body’s different resonances, highlighting its movement, amplitude and density, while inviting the artists to release bodily impulses and transcend societal expectations.
The video «Rasgos de Sol y Sombra» by Bianca Argimón revisited bullfighting through a feminine lens, questioning the codes of traditional masculinity. Ricardo Fumanal, through hyperrealism, conveyed intense bodily sensations, while John Fou blurred the boundaries between human and nature with hybrid forms, celebrating the body’s autonomy across its social, gender and sexual dimensions.
Claire Fahys’s work «Ritmo de la Ciudadela» captured the essence of freedom at the heart of Mexico City, celebrating the singularity of movement and self-expression. Leo Orta, with his surreal sculpture «Fauteuil Oiseau», imagined a fluid, colorful form, while Shuo Hao’s pieces «Couple Ivre» and «Vérité» conveyed warmth and intimacy.
In «Dancing on Army Blanket», Giovanni Bassan sketched a utopian transcendence, while Jamiu Agboke, with «Golden Lake», offered a soothing vision of a serene landscape. Finally, Alex Foxton and Malù Dalla Piccola explored identity and fluidity through abstract mythological interpretations, reinventing the body’s interactions within art.
